The app\u2019s functionality has been made possible due to the bank\u2019s partnership with Ripple.<\/h2>\n<p>The app will enable same day international transfers without fees using the latest exchange rates. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bgarlinghouse\/status\/959485434807033857\">\u00a0said that<\/a>\u00a0the app will let customers \u201c<i>send money internationally in seconds, with just a few clicks<\/i>.\u201d Currently it is only available on recent versions of Apple devices and will require a \u201c<i>Santander debit card registered with Apple Pay<\/i>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The app is currently only accessible to customers in the UK and Spain but will be extended to Brazil and Poland soon, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.santander.com\/csgs\/Satellite\/CFWCSancomQP01\/en_GB\/pdf\/Earnings_Presentation_ENGLISH_4T17.pdf#page=44\">Santander\u2019s 2017 earnings<\/a>\u00a0presentation.<\/p>\n<p>With the move, Santander expect \u201c<i>to be one of the first global banks to roll out Distributed Ledger Technology based payments for individuals<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2172 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/atozcrypto.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/santanderripple-300x167.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atozcrypto.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/santanderripple-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/atozcrypto.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/santanderripple-768x426.png 768w, https:\/\/atozcrypto.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/santanderripple-1024x568.png 1024w, https:\/\/atozcrypto.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/santanderripple-850x472.png 850w, https:\/\/atozcrypto.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/santanderripple.png 1654w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Despite being an application of blockchain technology in the financial world, it should be noted that Ripple\u2019s XRP cryptocurrency is not involved in the process. Instead Santander will be using Ripple\u2019s XRP-less xCurrent technology to enact the payments.<\/p>\n<p>The technology which uses XRP is known as xRapid which,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoelKatz\/status\/977749802829062144\">according to David Schwartz<\/a>, Ripple\u2019s Chief Cryptographer, is \u201c<i>our first product that settles with XRP<\/i>\u201d but is \u201c<i>not aimed at banks.<\/i>\u201d Instead the company has targeted \u201c<i>low-value, high-volume remittance-like payments<\/i>\u201d for its xRapid platform.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessonlinemarketingsystems.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.businessonlinemarketingsystems.com\/banners\/Ab4.gif\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>When asked last month if XRP was still in play as a future solution for banks\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoelKatz\/status\/977905580210704384\">he replied<\/a>\u00a0\u201c<i>absolutely<\/i>\u201d, adding that Ripple believed that \u201c<i>XRP settlement can save banks money beyond what xCurrent can do alone<\/i>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that investors are wising up to the differences between Ripple\u2019s technologies. Late last year XRP soared on news of Ripple\u2019s various partnerships and pilot schemes, with the currency used by investors as a proxy for the company.
